Below is a sample of a family biography included in The History Kentucky, Edition 3 by W. H. Perrin, J. H. Battle, G. C. Kniffen; and published by F. A. Battey and Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details in a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

WILLIAM H. CAMPBELL, son of John S. and Mary (Ennis) Campbell, was born March 3, 1829, in Warren County, and is the third of a family of six boys and five girls. John S. He is a son of Wiley Campbell, who married a Miss Sales, both natives of Amherst County. Mrs. Mary (Ennis) is a daughter of George Ennis, who immigrated to this State from Virginia in an early day. William H. Campbell was reared on the farm and January 1, 1855, married Mary Ramsey, of Warren County. To them were born seven children: Henry T., Margaret R. (White), James F., John R., Willice B., Walter E. and Lena Rivers. Mrs. Campbell is a daughter of Booker and Mahala Ramsey, of Warren County. Mahala Drake was a daughter of Tolton Drake, a descendant of Sir Francis Drake. After marriage Mr. Campbell located where he now resides, on 135 acres four miles north of Bowling Green; he now owns 274 acres, highly cultivated, and improved with a fine residence, out-buildings, etc., besides a fine orchard of 1,000 trees; he also owns 160 acres of land three miles from Wellington, Kas.
